Ethical Sourcing at Ruvo

Beauty Begins With Responsibility
At Ruvo, we believe innovation is only meaningful when it’s built on a foundation of integrity. As a company committed to reshaping the beauty industry through clean technology and sustainable design, we hold ourselves to the highest standards — not just in what we create, but in how we source every component that goes into our products.
Ethical sourcing is one of the cornerstones of our business. From raw materials and cosmetic ingredients to packaging and production partnerships, we are intentional about every choice we make. We seek out suppliers who share our values, prioritize transparency, and protect both people and the planet.
This page outlines what ethical sourcing means to us, how we vet our partners, and how we’re building a supply chain that supports fairness, traceability, and long-term accountability.
What Does Ethical Sourcing Mean?
Ethical sourcing is the practice of ensuring that the products and materials we purchase are obtained in a responsible and sustainable way. It involves:
-
Respecting human rights and fair labor standards
-
Avoiding exploitative labor practices, including child labor and forced labor
-
Ensuring safe working conditions across the supply chain
-
Sourcing materials with minimal environmental impact
-
Supporting local and historically marginalized communities
-
Prioritizing transparency, traceability, and long-term supplier relationships
At Ruvo, we extend these principles across every aspect of our sourcing process — from the cosmetic formulas in our refill pouches to the aluminum used in our mask’s structure and the paper in our packaging.

Our Sourcing Priorities
We’ve established five guiding pillars that shape our ethical sourcing decisions:
Human Rights and Fair Labor
We only work with suppliers who can demonstrate compliance with international labor laws, including the International Labour Organization (ILO) standards. This includes:
-
Fair wages
-
Safe and sanitary working conditions
-
Reasonable working hours
-
Zero tolerance for child labor or forced labor
-
Legal documentation for all employees
We require all tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers to sign our Supplier Code of Conduct, which outlines our expectations around worker rights, anti-discrimination, and workplace safety. Any failure to comply results in the termination of the supplier relationship.

Environmental Responsibility
We prioritize materials that are ethically harvested, low-impact, and renewable where possible. This includes:
-
Recycled aluminum and stainless steel
-
FSC-certified paper and biodegradable bioplastics
-
Ingredients that are biodegradable and sourced without deforestation
-
Water-conserving and low-energy manufacturing methods
When we source raw materials for our makeup formulations, we look for partners who use sustainable agricultural practices and avoid synthetic additives that harm soil and water systems.
Traceability and Transparency

We strive for full visibility into our supply chain, with documentation to support ethical claims at each stage. That means:
-
Knowing where our ingredients and components come from
-
Working with manufacturers who allow third-party audits
-
Requesting certifications such as ISO, Fair Trade, or Ecocert where applicable
-
Using traceable batch systems for cosmetic ingredients and packaging
In time, we plan to launch a Traceability Dashboard where customers can explore the sourcing story behind their Ruvo device and refills.

Local and Community-Based Partnerships
We actively seek suppliers who support community development, especially in underrepresented or indigenous regions. This includes:
-
Small-batch producers of plant-based emollients and natural pigments
-
Women-led cooperatives and social enterprises
-
Facilities that reinvest in education, housing, or wellness programs for workers
As Ruvo grows, we plan to expand our investment in ethical ingredient sourcing from women-led and Indigenous-owned producers, particularly in regions where botanical resources are native and sustainably managed.

Zero Tolerance for Greenwashing
We hold ourselves and our suppliers accountable for honest, evidence-based claims. That means we do not use vague or misleading terms like “eco-friendly” without clear support. If we say something is sustainable, recycled, or fair-trade, it is because we can prove it.

Cosmetic Ingredient Sourcing
Our refill formulas are crafted with skincare-grade ingredients that meet high ethical and environmental standards. This includes:
-
Plant-based emollients harvested with minimal land disruption
-
Hyaluronic acid produced through fermentation, not animal-derived sources
-
Mica, if used, is sourced from verified suppliers with no child labor involvement
-
Vitamins and antioxidants derived from certified organic sources when possible
-
Colorants that are synthetic but non-toxic, or plant-derived where stability allows
We avoid ingredients associated with environmental harm or labor abuses, such as palm oil unless RSPO-certified, and we maintain a running blacklist of banned substances and unethical suppliers.
Hardware & Materials
Ruvo’s hardware is intentionally designed to use fewer materials, reduce waste, and support a longer product lifecycle.
-
Recycled aluminum and stainless steel are used to replace plastic where durability is essential
-
Our plastic components are BPA-free and eligible for recycling or return through our Refill & Recycle Program
-
Spray nozzles are made from surgical-grade steel, manufactured in facilities that follow strict labor laws and environmental controls
-
All circuit boards are RoHS-compliant, meaning they are free from hazardous substances like lead and mercury
Our production partners must pass regular audits and environmental compliance checks, and we aim to bring more manufacturing in-region over time to reduce transport emissions and improve oversight.

Third-Party Certifications and Audits
We are in the process of integrating the following certifications into our sourcing and operational standards:
-
ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems)
-
Fair Trade Certified (for selected ingredients)
-
SA8000 (Social Accountability Standard)
-
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council for paper products)
-
Leaping Bunny / Cruelty-Free Certifications for cosmetic testing policies
While not all of our suppliers are certified yet, we are moving in that direction as part of our larger ethical compliance roadmap.
What’s Next
We believe that ethical sourcing is a living system — one that grows more robust as we do. Our roadmap includes:
-
Publishing an annual Ethical Sourcing Report with progress and metrics
-
Launching a supplier partnership program that rewards best practices
-
Building direct relationships with ingredient growers and cooperatives
-
Creating supplier training materials for upskilling on sustainability
-
Integrating AI-powered traceability tools for batch-level tracking
Our long-term vision is to build not just a supply chain — but a value chain that benefits everyone it touches.
